Oh Lord, How Long?
Once again, we are here working to recover from another weather disaster. Tornadoes cut a wide swath of destruction between Somerset and London. At least 19 lives were lost in the Somerset and London tornadoes. More than 800 Kentuckians have been sleeping in shelters.
Since the beginning of the year we have dealt with unprecedented cold weather, ice, snow, more catastrophic flooding and now deadly tornadoes. It’s would be appropriate to cry out, “Oh Lord, How Long!”
However, we are a resilient people. The wonderful saints in London and Somerset, are already working to host groups providing recovery and rebuilding effort. We’ve applied for an Assistance Grant from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to help us support First Presbyterian Churches in London and Somerset in their work to support those who have come to help and to take care of those who have been impacted by the tornadoes.
When we have some information about sending work teams to the area, we will share that with you. And just as a reminder, we are still in the midst of rebuilding from the 2021, 2022 and 2025 floods. We must not forget them simply because we have another tragedy in our midst.
If you would like to donate to the recover effort, you can make a donation through the Transylvania Presbytery buy clicking HERE.
You can also donate to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. They have been a tremendous partner and support as we recover from the multiple disasters that have hit us. You can make a donation to PDA HERE.
Presbyterians are a praying and faithful people. We may be weary of what has happened the past few years but we are undeterred. God neither caused nor revels in the destruction we have experienced. Rather, God walks beside us in the rubble and the mud. Reminding us we remain securely in God’s loving and healing grasp.
