Parts of Eastern Kentucky were devastated by floods in late July.  Two of the Presbytery’s church buildings (Buckhorn and Whitesburg) were significantly impacted by the flood waters but more importantly, thousands of people have been displaced and are looking for housing, water and food. The Presbytery is working through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to provide help for those displaced. Since that time, the Presbytery’s Coordinating Commission created a Flood Recovery Team to work in the areas of Eastern Kentucky that were affected by the floods. The team members are:
  • Tracy Counts, ruling elder from First Presbyterian Church of Hazard
  • Rev. Matt Falco, teaching elder from Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church, Lexington
  • Robin Gabbard, ruling elder from Buckhorn Lake Area Presbyterian Church
  • Larry Gray, ruling elder from First Presbyterian Church of London
  • Nate Kissel, ruling elder from Isom Presbyterian Church
  • Rev. Linda Kurtz, teaching elder from First Presbyterian Church of Lexington
  • Rev. Hannah McIntyre, teaching elder from Pisgah Presbyterian Church, Versailles
  • Rev. Dr. Rob Musick, chaplain at University of Pikeville
  • Rev. Brad Napier, teaching elder from Stanford Presbyterian Church
  • Rev. Scot Robinson, teaching elder from First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville
  • Rev. Janice Stamper, teaching elder from Morris Fork, Kentucky
  • Tyler Ward, ruling elder from Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church of Whitesburg
  • Rev. Philip Lotspeich, General Presbyter of Presbytery of Transylvania
  • Rev. Jerry Utt, Stated Clerk of Presbytery of Transylvania and teaching elder from Troy Presbyterian Church, Versailles

Please keep all affected in your prayers and be ready to respond when we need volunteers. This will be a long-term recovery effort!
